There’s nothing like a little “Get Your War” on to start your Monday morning.  The most recent video highlights  a recent phenomenon that has attracted the likes of Michele Bachman - jumping on the Obama bandwagon.

Get the latest news satire and funny videos at 236.com.

It is interesting how all these people who were being quite disgusting in how they treated Obama - calling him a terrorist, trying to convince people that he was anti-American - are now singing his praises. It’s one thing to buck it up and support the new President because you should, it’s another to pretend you were supporting him all along.

To really support Obama, takepart with Change.gov

Many many months ago, we told you that the incredibly-bearded Chuck Norris had asked Congress to drill here and now.  Well, Norris is back, and has posted an open letter to President-elect Obama (if you recall, Bush has, oh, let’s say…three months left?), giving him some advice.

It seems Norris is concerned that “Democrats have a virtual monopoly over our land, with control of the White House, both houses of Congress, a majority of gubernatorial positions, state legislatures, the courts, the news media, the unions and the entertainment and educational fields,” and wants to make sure this doesn’t ruin the good thing going we have called AMERICA.  And so he says,

It’s no big surprise that I don’t see politically eye-to-eye with you. Actually, I stand in stark opposition to most of your politics. Still, even in our differences, I realize that we must learn to work together if we are to see our country get back on track. After Election Day, I asked myself, despite the outcome, how can I work for our new president to help better America? Then the thought occurred to me, the first question that should be answered is: How will you work for me? After all, it is “We, the People” of the Constitution for whom you are employed, correct?

It’s kind of like what JFK said upon inaguration, except the exact and complete opposite.  Anyhow, Norris outlines four points for Obama to follow to be a good president:

1. Use and cite the Constitution. What does this entail, Mr. Norris?

Even if it’s just the beginning of the end of Guantanamo, what good news! It’s nice to know that even though Obama is focusing on the economy he’s still paying attention to the war and all things related.

From the Huffington Post:

“President-elect Obama’s advisers are quietly crafting a proposal to ship dozens, if not hundreds, of imprisoned terrorism suspects to the United States to face criminal trials, a plan that would make good on his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay prison but could require creation of a controversial new system of justice.”

The article goes on to to classify how all levels of prisoners would be dealt with, with some prisoners needing a new court system that could deal with their entanglement with highly classified issues.

I have to say that this makes me super excited. Even thought it might be slightly controversial and something new, it is something that takes into account people’s rights (something the current administration didn’t seem to care very much about).

Obama’s campaign staff developed a strong Web presence throughout his run for the presidency, and now President-Elect Barack Obama (oh, that’s fun to type!) has launched Change.gov to make for a smooth internet transition to the White House.  The site, complete with a countdown to the inauguration, allows you to learn more about the presidential team and policies, follow the transitional process to Pennsylvania Ave, and share  your ideas.

Just as the previous site helped galvanize supporters (and raise a pretty penny), the new one will hopefully encourage people to

Is there really any comparison?

(also I know I’ve posted the Obama speech a bunch now, but I’ve also watched it at least 10 times today and think it’s OK to rewatch it :) )

Which one inspires you? Which one do you find more presidential? Which speech is really about a “season of hope”? And most importantly did Bush live up to anything he said?

I live in New York City and more than that I don’t have a super conventional lifestyle, meaning despite my love love love of dogs, having one is kind of out of the question.  I am therefore supremely jealous of Malia and Sasha Obama, who not only get an awesome new home to call their own but also, according to their father, a new dog!

There’s a lot of internet chatter about what dog they girls should get and where they should get it from.  The Obamas say that is is imperative that they adopt the dog from an animal shelter or rescue group.  Which is so awesome!

If you’re thinking of joining the Obamas in adding a dog to your family, be sure to takepart and adopt with the ASPCA.

And go after the jump to see President-Elect Obama’s speech where he mentions the puppy (and hope!)

Politico reports that Robert Gibbs will be White House Press Secretary in the new Barack Obama administration (man, that feels good to write). Gibbs had functioned as the primary spokesman for Obama throughout his Presidential campaign. So what do we know about the man who could serve as the mouthpiece for this new era in American politics. For one he’s a Southerner, hailing from Auburn, Alabama, and has a pleasant sounding southern drawl, sure to put a down home spin on policy pronouncements. He also seems like a pretty pleasant guy, as evidenced in this contentious interview with Fox NewsSean Hannity on his show Hannity & Colmes, where Gibbs kills the conservative commentator softly, giving him just enough rope to hang himself on his own abundant vitriol. Check it out:

If you weren’t already feeling good about President-Elect Barack Obama, the below video should change that.  If you were already feeling good about President-Elect Barack Obama than the video below should make you happier.

In the weeks before the election the economy became the main focus but it’s important to remember what else an Obama presidency could and should mean when it comes to torture, genocide, poverty and war:

takepart with Human Rights First and remember that we won the vote and now we have to make that change mean something!

And takepart with our social action for Standard Operating Procedure and learn how you can fight torture

After living through 8 dark, scary years during which we lost our moral and legal bearings, our country has finally chosen the visionary path of unity, hope and respect for all human rights and civil liberties. We’ve emerged from the darkest depths of fear, hatred and racism that were part of our nation’s founding and have been our communal struggle. While President-elect Obama’s victory hasn’t fully erased these legacies yet, it offers one of the greatest moments of hope for our country to move beyond our racist, slavery-rooted history. As I was teary-eyed through Obama’s beautiful victory speech, I stood in awe with millions of others worldwide who were blown away by his mesmerizing words and spirit. Although he has a difficult road ahead, his ability to unite people of all races, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions and ethnicities demonstrated his ability to deliver a message to all Americans that is the first step in what will be a long journey to allow our country to be truly united and respected as a global leader.

I can also provide you updates on all of the other election-related items I’ve blogged about over the past couple of weeks. While the outcome of the presidential race seemed to be accurate and fair, Election Protection reported 50,000 calls were made. Election reform will not end today; activists will continue to press for much needed election reforms to ensure safe future elections. I’m thrilled to announce that Prop 2, the measure to provide more humane conditions for farm animals, resoundingly passed 62% to 38%. Measure R, to rename San Francisco’s sewage treatment plant after George W. Bush unfortunately failed. And, sadly, all of the ballot propositions in Arizona and Florida passed. California Prop 8 has not been decided, takepart and follow the updates from NoOn8.com
