How to!Didja hear?  Didja didja?  It’s Compost Awareness Week 2008!   Yay!!!   Big news.   Big news.   The event is put on by The Composting Association and WRAP (for the life of me I can’t find what that acronym stands for), and was started in Canada and has reached the UK, but seems to not quite have permeated the American market yet.   BUT, that doesn’t mean composting isn’t way cool in the states.   Look no further than Julia Roberts for the veracity of that last statement.   She composts, and she was in that one way cool movie.

Other celebrities are on board for this Compost Awareness Week action, too.

Celebrity chefs including Paul Rankin, James Martin, Cyrus Todiwala and Jimmy Doherty are lending their support to WRAP’s “Love Food Hate Waste” campaign to provide consumers with information on simple steps that can be taken to reduce food waste, and its impact on the environment. The campaign recently released a new research survey which shows 90 percent of consumers are unaware of how much food they waste. In the UK alone, 6.7 million tons of wasted food is shipped off to landfills. That’s almost $16 billion dollars wasted on food that is never eaten each year.
