A complex portrait of the people and organizations that all converged in Seattle in 1999, Stuart Townsend’s Battle in Seattle has all the ingredients of a necessary film that could inspire social action. From what I can tell in the trailer, it appears as thought the activists are painted in a positive light and the tiny clip of the cops in Chicago 1968 that appears at the beginning gives me hope that the film will also explore the cops actions in an honest way.

Woody Harrelson apparently forgot his vegan shoes and belt as part of his Cannes Film Festival ensemble last week. When his assistants couldn’t find replacements for them, he had the accessories flown to France. Says Ecorazzi:

“Now, in the scheme of things, having an extra pair of shoes and a belt on an overnight FedEx plane that was bound for France anyways is not going to kill a polar bear. But it’s the environmentally insensitive request from someone who truly lives the green lifestyle that has us puzzled. And that’s a first coming from someone like Harrelson.”

As we shifted our attention from Burma to China in the past week, I think it’s good to focus our attention back on Burma(but not necessarily away from China). Giulia did a great post about “Burma, It Can’t Wait” last week - so I thought I’d go ahead and post another video from the series so folks don’t forget…

Will Ferrell makes a great point (and even mentions my home state…) about the nature of the problem in Burma and how you can help.

Are you one of those that gets a little irked when you order delivery, and they include plastic utensils with your food, even though you’re eating at your own house?  So why isn’t it that you bring your own utensils when you eat out at that same place?  Or, even, everywhere you go?  To-Go Ware thinks that maybe you ought to start doing that.   The company was founded on the thought that if people have reusable coffee cups, why shouldn’t people do the same with forks and knives?

Rosie Perez is talking about her awkward sex scene with John Leguizamo for the movie “The Take”. And everyone is talking about Rosie joining “Exit 19″ a CBS pilot with Geena Davis. But the most exciting Rosie related news is what she talked about when she spoke at Kutztown University, in Pennsylvania. Rosie told a crowd of over 400 people to “Listen to your hearts and do something about the injustices in the world.” Rosie also explained how her own activist spirit launched her career.

My life would not have changed if I didn’t have that activist spirit… If I didn’t have something inside me that I didn’t understand at that time, at 19 years old, that said, “ËœThis is wrong. I’m going to stand up and make this stop by any means necessary.’

What was it that the Brooklyn-native 19 year-old-boricua biochemistry major saw that made her so upset? It involved Spike Lee!

owen_wilson_woody.jpgWoody Harrelson and Owen Wilson have been spotted frolicking in their skivvies in Peru, where the two stars went to visit the Casa de Milagros, a local orphanage they support, and do a little eco-touring.Wilson and Harrelson splashed around in an irrigation ditch in their boxers, and sought additional rejuvenation at the Hanaq Pacha Retreat Center, a yoga and spiritual retreat next to the Casa de Milagros orphanage which Harrelson also supports. The retreat has an organic vegetable garden and houses its guests in teepee-like structures called malocas, made from wood and canvas. The Chateau Marmont, it’s not, and that presumably suits these two Texan refugees from Tinsel Town just fine.
