ABC has blocked the recent “Repower America” television advertisement from WE Can Solve It from airing. The broadcast network flat out refused to run the ad during the Tuesday night debate between Illinois Senator Barack Obama and Arizona Senator John McCain, a time slot where new ideas like those presented in the the ad couldn’t be more necessary. Stranger still, ABC has failed to provide any explanation whatsoever to WE CEO Cathy Zoi as to the reason behind the refusal by a network that is plenty happy to run advertisements from Supermajor oil companies on the regular. You can check out the “Repower America” ad below:

Remember Coolio? You know, Gangsta’s Paradise? Fantastic Voyage? That weird feud with ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic? Kinda ringing some bells? Awesome. I bring this up because Coolio is the latest big name to join the green movement, as he has agreed to speak at historically black colleges and universities about climate change.

The talks are part of the EJCC (Environmental Justice and Climate Change) HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) initiative, and are also in conjunction with Al Gore’s We (not actually an acronym) program. The director of EJCC, Nia Robinson, announced the program on Friday, and per AllHipHop.com,

‘The effects of climate change fall disproportionately on people of color, Indigenous Peoples, and low-income communities,’ said Robinson about the importance of student involvement in the initiative. ‘Black college students must be on the frontlines educating their communities and contributing their voices to the policy debate.’

We here at takepart have highlighted (highlit?) people like Van Jones, who see the necessity of discussing global warming and with people from all walks of life.

I also was disgusted by the show Bulging Brides but it wasn’t until Feministing.com posted this piece that I realized I wasn’t alone in my discomfort. Bulging Brides is a classy program where women buy wedding dresses two sizes too small and then kill themselves to fit into those tiny frocks. Check out this clip:

The shows tag-line is “the perfect day is still pounds away.” First of all, there is no such thing as a perfect day or a perfect body. Secondly, shouldn’t happiness on your wedding day come from the actual marriage and not from the size of your wedding dress?
