If you’re like me, you tend roll out of bed 15 minutes before you need to leave the house to get to work, meaning no time to make coffee and peruse the newspaper. It’s coffee on the go for this 9 to 5′er, which means if I’m not using my travel mug, I’m contributing to the sad reality of North Americans consuming 50 million trees per year from paper cup use.
You all know the drill by now: the cup goes in the trash can, gets picked up by a pollution producing garbage truck, and then gets tossed in a landfill where it will rot and create greenhouse gases. If that’s not enough to deter you, the cups are usually lined with plastic to prevent sogginess, some of which you end up drinking when it mixes with hot, acidic liquid.
