C-Net, a great place to go for tech news, has a great little internet show called Loaded. On the show they highlight technology news and give you the inside scoop on tech and internet events.

Today’s episode is especially awesome because it marks the beginning of internet week and also they go to the Media that Matters film festival. If you go in to the point where there is 3 minutes left you’ll also see an interview with someone that might have a familiar name:

Protest has always been a great way to get your voice heard, to alert those in your community that something is going on that you don’t agree with. For the most part, protest means a group of folks holding signs and shouting out their message in unison. This can be pretty powerful on its own, but when folks with a message get creative and start to use other methods to get their point across it can be pretty inspirational!   A little over a week ago, here in New York City, a group joining in an effort to have their union recognized in their workplace took ideas of protest to this next level.

The Tenement Museum Union met at Chelsea Piers on March 4th to share their opinions, but they did so not as themselves but as famous characters from history related to their cause - like Emma Goldman and Abraham Lincoln. This was especially fitting as the Tenement Museum works to educate people on New York City’s immigrant history, as one of the protesters explains:

EstroGenius is an annual celebration of female voices in New York City through theatre, solo shows, music, visual art, and dance as well as performances by teens and Voices of Africa, EstroGenius’s cross-cultural collaboration to raise awareness about the lives of girls in Niger.

EstroGenius accepts open submissions from around the world for consideration to participate in their month-long fall festival taking place October 1 - November 1, 2008.

March 15, 2008 is the deadline to submit for short plays and solo shows as well as lighting, sound and set designers.

Not sure how to celebrate Black History Month? Consider seeing A Rose Among Thorns, Ella Joyce’s once-woman show paying tribute to Rosa Parks in an effort to keep her oral history alive, celebrate her brave and exemplary character, and honor the civil rights movement by inspiring action and social change in both young and old alike.
