Having just moved to L.A. from Brooklyn, there are many things that I miss about my hood, and up at the top of the list is BAM.   Demonstrating the institutions usual prowess as arbiter elegantarium of cultural awesomeness, this season’s Next Wave Festival promises not to disappoint.   So, do me a favor and go check out as many shows as you possibly can, and report back.   Just don’t rub it in too much.   I really wish I had the chance to see (and told you sooner about) last week’s Sunken Red, a solo show about a man interned in a Japanese prison.   Maybe they will remount it!

In New York and free tomorrow night?  Well, get free and go see Woyzeck.   An acrobatic, sometimes underwater, Icelandic drama with a score by Nick Cave and The Dirty Three?!   How could you go wrong?

Looptopia, Chicago’s all night artistic and cultural extravaganza begins at 5PM local time in, where else, The Loop! Artists, musicians, theater performances, films, interactive new media and dance performances will be going from sunset to sunrise and beyond in Chicago’s famous downtown district. 14 hours of culture beginning at 5PM and lasting till the sunrise celebration in Millenium Park at 7AM. So if you’re in the Windy City go get your Loop on and revel your way through all the culture Chicago has to offer.

Not sure how to celebrate Black History Month? Consider seeing A Rose Among Thorns, Ella Joyce’s once-woman show paying tribute to Rosa Parks in an effort to keep her oral history alive, celebrate her brave and exemplary character, and honor the civil rights movement by inspiring action and social change in both young and old alike. The show is touring various cities throughout the country, including Joyce’s hometown in Detroit and at the Rosa Parks Museum in Alabama. and find out when the production will be coming to your area.
