I’ve been posting a lot of Stand Up 2 Cancer Videos both before and after the broadcast last Friday.   The one below might be my favorite.   It’s quite poignant and put together in a way that only the amazing Errol Morris could manage:

According to Boing Boing it’s an excerpt from a larger project.   If it is anything like the clip above I both can’t wait and don’t want to see it…

While I like the idea of all these superstar ladies singing to help stop cancer, I don’t actually like what all of them singing together sounds like…

What do you think?

With the Stand Up 2 Cancer ( standup2cancer.org) telethon/celebrity extravaganza set to air tomorrow night, I got to thinking about cancer. I’ve had a few family members who’ve had it, but they all survived and lived elsewhere, meaning I didn’t much have contact with cancer itself. In fact, the closest I’ve probably come to cancer is in the movies and on TV. And as cancer is something that seems to have an impact on almost everyone these days, it’s good that there are films out there that deal with it - and thus help us all deal with it.

Below are my Top 10 Cancer Movies - some are real weepies, others simply address the spirit of living while we can. The film directly below however, looks at it from a different perspective…

10. Fight Club - When Edward Norton’s character starts to attend cancer group support meeting to help him sleep we get a sneak peak into the dark world of dealing with cancer. Time flies and tomorrow night marks the historic Stand Up 2 Cancer broadcast on all 3 major networks. We’ve been bringing you news about this exciting effort to make a huge dent in curing cancer since it was announced in late May and are looking forward to the broadcast tomorrow night.

In the meantime, give a watch to the video below. It helps explain the financial model of Stand Up 2 Cancer, features animation from Jim Cooper (creator of “Why We Fight,” the popular viral video outlining the WGA’s position during the Writers Strike) and is narrated by Paul Rudd.

Stand Up to Cancer, The Show
Jon Popham June 28, 2008 | 9:22 am EST

Fellow TakePart blogger Gina alerted us about Stand Up to Cancer back when the news broke,  but as the date approaches here’s more. Stand Up to Cancer, The Show, will be coming to a television near you the evening of Friday, September 5th. Major television networks ABC, CBS and NBC will all be running this hour long history-making, interactive special, uniting the country against the deadly disease.

The broadcast will include over fifty of the biggest stars from film, television, music & sports manning the phone bank to take viewer donations. Segments from celebrity-journalists such as Brian Williams, Katie Couric and Charles Gibson will inform the viewing public about cancer and the current state of research. Stand Up to Cancer also plans to auction off video chats with celebrities with all proceeds going toward cancer research.

Really, everyone is standing up to cancer:

The Big Three television networks NBC, CBS and ABC have never done anything like it before. On Friday, Sept. 5, their news anchors Brian Williams, Katie Couric and Charles Gibson, respectively will sit on one set for a commercial-free, prime-time simulcast entitled Stand Up to Cancer. [MSNBC]

Major League Baseball is teaming up with entertainers, foundations, businesses and three of the top four television networks — ABC, CBS and NBC — in the quest to find a cure for cancer.

The new initiative, called “Stand Up To Cancer,” was introduced on Wednesday morning on all three networks and at press conferences at the Paley Center for Media in New York. It will also be introduced in Beverley Hills later today.
