So as we announced some time ago, Radiohead decided to document the issues surrounding being an eco-conscious band touring the world. Well, yesterday marked the end of the tour, in Santa Barbara (technically, they have some dates in Japan in October, but we’re not counting those), so I thought it might be interesting to catch up with the band’s blog and see how the whole “green tour” thing worked out.

As it turns out, the blog ended up being incredibly technical in describing the actions taken to help green the tour. The gist of it all, as far as I can tell, is that the band looked for little ways to make a big difference. These included:

1) Having truck drivers plug their trucks into venue power sources so the drivers didn’t have to idle all night as they slept in their cabs with the A/C on.

2) Asking fans to carpool, and providing venue-specific public transportation information on the Radiohead site.

Don’t miss out on these green summer music tours featuring some excellent musicians with an sustainable and responsible environmental message. A more complete eco-friendly musical lineup for summer can be found on The Daily Green, but these were just a few that caught our eye:

Radiohead is at the forefront of greening the music industry. They’re active with environmental groups like The Big Ask, and even refused to fly to the US and insisted on performing via satellite on Late Night with Conan O’Brien because of the carbon toll the air travel would take on the planet. This summer, Radiohead is insisting that everyone on the tour use their own water flasks.   They’re also using bio-fuel in their buses, and are even refusing to use any airfreight. Look out for Radiohead tour dates in August.

C-Net, a great place to go for tech news, has a great little internet show called Loaded. On the show they highlight technology news and give you the inside scoop on tech and internet events.

Today’s episode is especially awesome because it marks the beginning of internet week and also they go to the Media that Matters film festival. If you go in to the point where there is 3 minutes left you’ll also see an interview with someone that might have a familiar name:

So much Radiohead.Embarking on a world tour as of yesterday, Radiohead are trying to educate their fans about what the band is doing to reduce its carbon footprint while on the road, attempting to create an eco-friendly world tour.

Now, I know this is the third time I’ll have mentioned Radiohead.   I know our very own Giulia Rozzi wrote about Radiohead two days ago.   I also know that our very own Jon Popham recently talked about Prince covering the band at Coachella (though I wasn’t there this time around, I did get to see the Daft Punk set in 2006 and can die happy for that reason), but it seems Radiohead just keep on doing the right thing and making environmental headlines, or whatever.

Radiohead joined forces with Mtv’s EXIT campaign against human trafficking to create the “All I Need Video.”

(Radiohead frontman) Thom Yorke has never been one to keep his political views to himself. And when he was contacted by MTV to take part in a campaign against human trafficking, he decided to play things close to the vest. Because, as he sees it, the issue isn’t a political one at all.

Prince brought down the house Saturday night, playing the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. His Purpleness knew his audience and treated them to a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep”, done, of course, in his own signature style. Check it out below (Note: The video clip is from a fan in the audience, so the audio quality and camerawork could be better, but it’s the best we have for now. Check it out while you can on YouTube):

To celebrate Earth Day, NBC Universal has decided that only one day to celebrate the planet is for chumps, and has proclaimed it to be Earth Week over at their media outlets.   Many of NBC’s shows will be eco-themed this week, and those totally helpful “The More You Know” bumps will focus on the environment.   As well, at NBC’s special green website you can, “Learn simple and easy ways to incorporate “ËœGreen’ choices into your lifestyle.”  While many of these tips may seem old hat to some of us, there really is a lot of good information on the site, and it’s nice to see a company with so much power promoting a green agenda.   A few other things that NBC is doing, aside from telling you what you ought to do:
