This movie might actually be interesting.  I mean, it stars a non-typical actress, a no-name love interest, Richard Dreyfuss and Rachel Dratch!

Of course it is also a cheesy romantic comedy.  I hope that it ends up more like My Big Fat Greek Wedding (which is a harmless family film) than How to Love a Guy in 10 Days (which makes me shudder).

And because Greece is not really a Romantic Comedy friendly place at the moment, takepart to learn more about the situation/riots there.

Taken : Upcoming Movie Trailer
Gina Telaroli January 5, 2009 | 10:04 am EST

I feel like I haven’t seen Liam Neeson in quite some time.  Which is sad - I like Liam!

I have no idea if this film will be any good but the trailer is great!  Not only does it defy normal thriller trailer conventions but it also showcases Liam Neeson kicking butt!

But because the slave trade and human trafficking is serious, even in fun action movies, takepart to learn more about human trafficking through an amazing project that Emma Thompson is involved with.

Coraline : Upcoming Movie Trailer
Gina Telaroli December 30, 2008 | 10:47 am EST

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for The Nightmare Before Christmas but I wonder if this latest film from the same director will be as good?

It looks a bit more cute than dark but all the elements appear to be there for a quality animated flick.  I love the part where the narrator says something like “she wants to find a better world than this” and a picture of a man on the computer fills the screen.  Too true.

Also - button eyes!

takepart to make our current world better (instead of searching for new ones!)

9 : Upcoming Movie Trailer
Gina Telaroli December 29, 2008 | 10:58 am EST

I’ve always loved Tim Burton, and even though he didn’t direct 9 - he produced it - I feel like you can see his stamp on the film.

The director did direct Wanted - which is a little concerning.  Hopefully the film has more Burton and less Wanted.  Also the cast is amazing - John C. Reilly, Crispin Glover, Christopher Plummer, Jennifer Connelly and Martin Landau.  Woohoo!

Also - I always love a good dsytopian future film, esp ones that try to get across that we should treat our planet better.  In that spirit takepart to try and avoid a future like the one in 9.

State of Play : Upcoming Movie Trailer
Gina Telaroli December 24, 2008 | 10:44 am EST

Normally I wouldn’t think twice about a film like this - but given the current Blago scandel the film seems even more interesting.  Also of note is the amazing cast , including Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman, Robin Wright Penn and even though I’m not a big fan, Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck (I can get down with them though).

Not to mention that director Kevin Macdonald’s last film was The Last King of Scotland and Tony Gilroy of Michael Clayton fame helped write State of Play.

I have to say that I might need to see this.

And while political corruption is on your mind, takepart to read up on what’s happening with Blagojevich.

While I posted another typical indie trailer earlier, I have to say that I find this indie, Veronika Decides to Die quite intriguing:

My only fear is that she’ll decide she wants to live because she falls in love - and I kind of hate that.  Being loved is of course nice and maybe even important - but people should be able to live on their own, we shouldn’t need a significant other to make our life worth living.

But that aside, I might actually want to see this - because if they were smart enough to make a fairly interesting trailer, maybe the film will actually be OK.

And because suicide is a very serious thing - takepart with To Write Love On Her Arms - a group that is dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.  TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

Weather Girl : Upcoming Movie Trailer
Gina Telaroli December 23, 2008 | 8:15 am EST

Weather Girl looks like a fairly typical American indie…

That being said it looks fairly solid.  The characters seem fairly well developed and our main character seems kind of complex, in a real way, not in a quirky American indie way. Who knows?

I do know that if the main character was working as a Weather Girl these days she’d be beyond busy -takepart to read up on the national weather situation and then takepart to learn how you can donate an old coat to keep someone warm in these cold cold times.

The Ugly Truth : Upcoming Move Trailer
Gina Telaroli December 22, 2008 | 1:29 pm EST

Katherine Heigl and Gerald Butler (and romantic comedies in general) really annoy me.  That being said, this trailer makes The Ugly Truth not look that that bad.

This is of course doesn’t mean I’ll see it - just that watching the trailer doesn’t really annoy me.  I kind of like that it might be possible that the two stars won’t get together.

And takepart to learn the ugly (inconvenient) truth about a lot of things.

Adventureland : Upcoming Movie Trailer
Gina Telaroli December 18, 2008 | 12:50 pm EST

This is the latest from Superbad’s Greg Mottola and I think it actually looks pretty cute (despite the cheesiness of a trailer that claims “the worst job ever might just lead to the best time of his life”)

Bill Hader and Kristin Wiig are my favorite folks on SNL these days and Jesse Eisnberg is really good at being doofy, innocent and lovable.  And I do have to admit that I likd Superbad…

And because they are no doubt better for you than what they serve at Adevntureland - takepart to learn about veggie corn dogs!

The Horsemen : Upcoming Movie Trailer
Gina Telaroli December 18, 2008 | 10:51 am EST

So the below trailer for the Dennis Quaid horror film The Horsemen is in Italian - it isn’t supposed to be.  I was going to search for an English version but ultimately decided that the Italian version is probably better - I think most horror film trailers would be better if we couldn’t understand what anyone was saying.

Religion horror films freak me out and since I have no idea what anyone is saying in the above trailer, I am left to my own devices to figure out what’s going on - and most of the time my own imagination is better at scaring me than present day horror films. So based on that I’d say The Horsemen is going to be great!

And because it seems horses get a bad rap in this film (or the men that ride them anyways) takepart to adopt a Wild Mongolian Horse and help them from becoming extinct.
