The gravestone of Ian Curtis, deceased singer of Joy Division, has been stolen from a cemetery in Cheshire, England. The gravestone bore an inscription of Curtis’ most famous song lyrc, “Love Will Tear Us Apart” the title of the one song that can legitimately be described as a “hit” from his highly influential late 70’s band.

Curtis, whose life has been documented in the acclaimed films “24 Hour Party People“, directed by Michael Winterbottom, and “Control“, directed by Anton Corbijn, tragically hung himself in the kitchen of his home on May 18, 1980, at the age of 23. His band, Joy Division, subsequently reformed as New Order and went on to be one of the most popular British post-punk/new wave bands of the 1980’s and beyond. Joy Division has retained a loyal following since the singers’ death however, drawing in later generations and even fans who weren’t born yet during their short run from 1977-1980, with their influential, often dark, foreboding sound. Today, March 19, marks the 5 year anniversary of the war in Iraq. Regardless of how you personally feel about the war, one thing that’s have been positive and necessary over the past 5 years, are the many films and other forms of media being made that deal with the war and work to inform us as a public. There is an entire genre of film out there that examines the darker side of humanity and what the future looks like if that darker side continues to thrive. It seems to me that these films offer us a great opportunity to turn a negative into a positive and thus I present you with the Top 10 Dystopian Future Films Telling Us to Act Now!

The films below are the best of the dystopian bunch, each one offering us a great cinema experience as well as insight on how to make the world better today!

1. Metropolis : My # 1 dystopian adventure is also the oldest. Fritz Lang’s 1927 silent, Metropolis, is about a society in 2026 (so soon!) that is split is two, with the rich living above ground and the workers below. When one of the elite goes underground, he falls in love and those above use technology to keep their delicate class system in order. The story’s simple and the messages it provides are abundant.

So & give a home (above ground ) to those who need it.
