One of the perks of being an Emmy attendee is the fabulously over-the-top gift suites. This year, The Alive Expo suite included two rooms full of eco friendly freebies at The Sofitel Hotel in WEHO. One room was full of lifestyle and fashion including jewelry made from recycled bottles by Smart Glass. The other room offered a variety of body-friendly treats like Omega 3 vitamins, Oreganol, Cod Liver Oil and Honey infused wheat grass.

Across town, LA-publicist Melanie Segal rented an entire house in Beverly Hills. Celebs were invite to stop in get primped for the awards with manis, pedis and massages courtesy of Mobile Spa and hair touch-ups from T3 Micro. They could also snag Apple iPods and Plantronics Bluetooth headsets. Guests were asked to make donations to Brad Pitt’s “Make It Right NOLA” organization and to autograph the celebrity sign-in board, which will be auctioned off to benefit the charity.

Brad Pitt was in New Orleans on Monday to makes things just a little more right - and he wasn’t alone:

Former President Clinton and Brad Pitt met with hundreds of volunteers in the Lower 9th Ward at the site where a foundation headed by Pitt plans to begin building affordable homes for Hurricane Katrina victims.

“We hope to see a huge change here in the next six months,” Pitt told a group of residents as he posed for pictures Sunday and signed autographs.

It seems like more and more celebrities are using their influence to make awesome social action causes more present in the news. Often times they do this by making videos and putting those videos on the internet. This is great! But what’s really great is when the video goes beyond a talking celebrity head and turns out to be something that is well crafted, with equal attention given to image, sound and celebrity. With that I present you, the takepart community, with my Top 10 Internet Videos Featuring Celebrities Advocating for a Cause.

1. George Clooney for Amnesty International : The video is short and simple and only features Clooney and a ball, but it’s one of the most effective I’ve seen.

Brad Pitt was on Charlie Rose last week and when he wasn’t talking about his amazing film The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford he was talking about his efforts to even the scale in New Orleans:YouTube Preview ImageTo learn more about Pitt’s organization Make It Right - click on over here : http://www.makeitrightnola.org/ Also on the Brad Pitt news front - apparently the actor is in talks with the great Terrence Malick to take a role in his next film Tree of Life.  Pitt would replace Heath Ledger in the film which already has Sean Penn on board. As a Malick fan, any news that suggests he is moving forward on a project  gets me super excited - and it’s that excitement that led me to post the two videos below - one is a trailer for The Assassination of  Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (which is definitely going on my top 10 list this year) and the other is a trailer for Malick’s 1998 film The Thin Red Line, because it’s one of the best anti-war films to be released in some time and with the news that 70 billion more dollars have been allocated for Iraq, it might be time to reflect on what exactly war entails.YouTube Preview ImageYouTube Preview Image

brad_pitt2.jpgBy Kerry TruemanNew Orleans’ Ninth Ward must be on cloud nine today with the unveiling of the 13 eco-friendly low-income home designs Brad Pitt commissioned from green architects for his Make it Right project. Instead of sitting around bemoaning the lack of leadership on rebuilding New Orleans, Pitt has ponied up $5 million dollars out of his own pocket, and teamed up with green design guru William McDonough, among others, to help create 150 sustainable, affordable homes for the devastated Ninth Ward.Pitt’s making it easy for everyone to pitch in and help the Big Easy; whether you’re a foundation, a corporation, or an individual, you can help build these cleverly designed, super-efficient and desperately needed homes by adopting “one house, several houses or a portion of a house,” as Pitt told the New York Times. “You can adopt a tankless water heater or a solar panel or a tree or a low-flush toilet”you can give it to someone for Christmas.” Now, there’s the kind of gift-giving that even the Reverend Billy and his Church of Stop Shopping would say “Amen!” to!
