First, I should admit a startling fact, I’ve never really seen any of the Terminators! (eeek!) I think I’ve seen parts of the first and second though.. Regardless, this trailer looks pretty great and the film stars the man of the hour, Batman himself, Christian Bale, who it seems can do no wrong.

The Washington Post reported today that with very little fanfare, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has rewritten a section of the Clean Air Act which will make it easier to build power plants near national parks and wilderness areas.

The rewriting affects Class 1 areas, the highest level of protection afforded parks and wilderness (short of the Witness Protection Program, but it’s really really hard to hide a forest).  The change is policy is subtle, but the effects substantial.  Basically, the policy now is to not allow pollution levels to ever go over a certain mark, even in short spikes.  The new policy would afford, you know, the ability to pollute more, and more often.  It acts like a cap and trade program, except the pollution is trading with itself.  Confused?  Let’s let the pros discuss:

Is “Bambi” a friend or foe of the environment? Seems sort of an unusual question if you’ve seen the film - a disarmingly cute baby deer is orphaned by an evil huntsman, then makes friends with thumpity rabbits and cuddly skunks amidst the backdrop of an enchanted forest. But has its oversimplification of the issues and uber-sentimentalism distorted our views of wildlife and nature?

When the film came out in 1942 is was celebrated by wildlife conservationists and denounced by hunters. In fact, the National Audubon Society compared its conscious-raising power about the environment to “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” In “The Idea of Nature in Disney Animation,” David Whitley, a lecturer at Cambridge University, says that Disney movies like “Bambi” and “Finding Nemo” helped to inspire new generations of environmentalists.
