ANOTHER eco-disaster flick to hit the big screen? Ah well, they say art imitates life, although the idea of Mischa Barton playing a rickshaw driver turned sweatshop chemical plant worker strikes me as a little unparalleled. In any case, Barton and actor/activist Martin Sheen are set to star in the new film “Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain.” For those who aren’t familiar with the 1984 Bhopal, India disaster, it was one of the worst chemical spills in history, killing almost 15,000 people and injuring countless others. For more on the film, click here. You can also takepart and find out how you can get involved in the International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal.

Grr.The 2008 version of The Incredible Hulk is going to be green in more ways than one, now that it is the first film to receive the Environmental Media Association’s Green Seal in its end credits.  See, it’s two kinds of green cause, the Hulk himself is green, and the environmentalism is…never mind.  As reported by ecorazzi,

“From the very beginning, Marvel, Universal, Edward Norton and I were all focused on making (’Hulk’) a very green production,” Producer Gale Anne Hurd said. “One of our very first pre-production meetings with department heads was a green meeting.”

To that end, the on-set efforts included a massive reduction in the use of plastic utensils and water bottles. An environmental consultant was even hired to further guide the production. [These efforts were] coupled with greener efforts in set construction, energy usage, resource conservation, recycling and more.

Tom Brokaw called David Letterman out on his carbon footprint this week. Brokaw was on the show to promote his new book, Boom! Voices of the Sixties: Personal Reflections on the ‘60s and Today. When Letterman brought up the recently snuffed climate change bill and the Bush administration’s poor performance on global warming and environmental issues, Brokaw had this response:

Totally missed this one.Well, we finally missed one. After managing to post on Earth Day, Arbor Day, and even World Environment Day, it seems that World Ocean Day fell through the cracks this weekend. We are ashamed.

World Ocean Day, which to be fair is still an unofficial day (though I have no idea how the validity of something like Arbor Day is nationally or internationally accredited), passed us by yesterday, June 8. There was even a big party for the event of which ecorazzi got some pictures, with celebrities such as Ted Danson taking a break from drumming for R.E.M.’s tour for the occasion.

The day has been celebrated for 15 years, says Oceana, the ocean conservation organization that co-threw the party yesterday.

The vegan enthusiasts and animal rights activists are all aflutter at the news of Oprah’s twenty-one day vegan cleanse, and now Ecorazzi reports that Ellen Degeneres might be following suit, with a series of vegan-inspired authors appearing on her show last week. Here´s more from the source:

Tomorrow on the Ellen show, friend of Ecorazzi and Skinny Bitch author, Rory Freedman, will be on to discuss her two bestselling vegan books. And then to continue Veganmania, on May 28th Ellen will welcome Kathy Freston, author of Quantum Wellness — also known as the book that encouraged Oprah to take the vegan plunge. Ellen is a huge animal supporter and encourages eating local and organic food, but she still eats meat. Many people have expressed disappointment that Ellen valiantly fights for the animals and then later consumes them with the same passion. Will Ellen follow Oprah and adopt a vegan lifestyle? We will just have to wait and see! [Ecorazzi.com]
