An EcoDaycare Center Pioneer has opened in Atlanta, Georgia. Fio 360, the self-described nation’s first eco-early care center is pulling out all the stops to make sure its children start living green from the git-go.

For starters there are no carpets whatsoever at the center, which could expose children to the harmful chemicals in synthetic fibers. All floor coverings are rugs made from organic wool. The center uses only organic, formaldehyde-free mattresses for the kid’s naps. No PVC plastic toys are allowed in the facility and all meals served are made from 100% organic food prepared by Fio’s Executive Chef. Yoga and recycling classes are the norm - as are massages before naptime. You can watch the video below for more about Atlanta’s new Fio 360:

A green puppy was born in New Orleans last week. The puppy is perfectly healthy thus far, just green. Veterinarians say this occasionally occurs when the mother’s amniotic fluid mixes with the placenta during birth, which dyes the coat of the puppy.

Freak occurrences aren’t the only way to get the your dog or cat to go green, however. You can by checking out the blog Great Green Pets, which offers myriad ideas on how to make having a pet more environmentally friendly. Recent posts include information on organic dog biscuits, dog portrait cards on recycled materials and eco-friendly cat toys.

I think she's Canadian. And that's okay.Actress Rachel McAdams, when not starring in The Notebook or Mean Girls (which I totally didn’t see, I swear, but didn’t it turn out to be pretty funny?), cares enough about the environment to co-found greenissexy.org, a website devoted to all things eco-conscious.  The site, which she began with friends Megan and Didi, covers a wide range of topics, urging readers to “think big” in response to environmental issues, while also addressing the little things you can do daily to curb some of those greenhouse gasses.

I liked this site quite a bit because the reader isn’t being hit over the head with what he or she MUST DO RIGHT NOW to save the earth, but instead is given a laid back, fun site to click through and learn a little bit.

While on the phone with my mom she very sweetly says to me in her thick, adorable Italian accent “I was watching Oprah and you know today’s the day for the earth? Oprah said all these ways to help.”

Yes, even my immigrant mom who I ignorantly assumed didn’t understand environmental issues is going green thanks to Ms. Winfrey (she does have a special magic, doesn’t she?) On her episode Going Green 101: What Your Family Can Do Today Oprah encouraged viewers to make small changes. Oprah said “in honor of our Earth, I love her, I’m asking all of you today to implement just one green idea to help the fight against global warming.”

and check out Oprah.com for lots of easy eco-friendly tips.
