Do you have a favorite place to get carryout from? I have a few - living in New York City almost means that you have to.   One thing that gets on my carryout loving nerves is when my yummy dinner is placed into non-environmentally friendly containers.   UGH

It is with that frustration that I was super excited to learn about Vegware - the awesome makers of sustainable disposables! They work to make economic, eco-friendly, and high quality options for the food service industry

The Go Green Expo in NYC is just one great way to celebrate our fast-approaching Earth Day. The expo will feature the latest in eco-friendly products and services, as well as interactive seminars, speeches, an eco-film festival, and even an eco-friendly fashion show. Green marketplace spending exceeded $200 billion dollars in 2006, and there’s no sign of it slowing down. Educating consumers about green alternatives is an important part of lessening our environmental impact.

Joan Jett, spotted in the front row at John Varvatos’ fashion show on top of 7 World Trade Center on Monday, told columnist Robert Kahn that she’s releasing a greatest hits album this summer with packaging made “entirely from old paper and plastic.” The songs may be timeless, but the packaging won’t be; Joan promises that it will all be biodegradable.

Plastic bags, like diamonds, last forever. But unlike diamonds, plastic bags have lost their luster, which is why–as of today–large grocery stores in San Francisco are forbidden to use them, unless they’re the special compostable kind.

The ban was inspired, in part, by a massive patch of plastic floating in the Pacific about a thousand or so miles west of San Francisco. It’s twice as big as the state of Texas and thought to weigh about 3 million tons. That oughta be enough to crush any consumer complaints about the inconvenience of having to bring your own bag.
