The sixth look at one of my favorite movie dads. (#1 #2 #3 #4 and #5)

Elliot Hopper (Ghost Dad) in Ghost Dad

Bill Cosby will always be one of the ultimate TV Dads, and any fan of Bill Cosby should be a fan of one of his fatherly movie ventures, Ghost Dad. It’s mostly silly and full of gags, but watching Cosby sink into the floor and ride the lines between our world and another is great fun. Plus, the film is about him looking out for his kids - so it’s good for the entire family. Admittedly, I haven’t seen the film since in quite some time, but I remember loving it when I was a kid. And interestingly enough I just learned that Sidney Poitier directed it, which earns major bonus points with the adult me.

Ask Baba Ali, a video blog by Los Angeles web designer Ali Ardekani, seeks to change the perception of Muslims using comedy. Featured in an article in The New York Times, Ardenkani is part of a growing group of young Muslim video bloggers intent on uplifting the public image of their religion.

Baba Ali, a fictional character played by Ardekani, dispenses humorous advice on domestic matters on the blog. The act was created after Arkedani did a search for video blogs about Muslims on the internet and found either depictions of crazed, nihilistic extremists or defensive explanations as to why they weren’t that way. Ardekani sought out to reframe the entire discussion by, rather than letting the subject of Islam revolve around terrorism, instead taking an approach anyone can relate to - domestic, ordinary life. Typical topics range from family to matters of the heart to complaining as seen below:

In his latest project, hip hop artist, actor, and filmmaker Pras Michel (The Fugees) goes undercover for 9 days and nights as a homeless person in downtown LA’s notorious Skid Row. I met up with Pras in a hotel lobby in Manhattan to discuss Skid Row, the documentary based on his time on the street living with 90,000 people in a 50 square block area. Pras talked to me about Muhammed Ali, why he likes Obama and doesn’t go for Bill Cosby, how Oprah and Snoop could help the “lost African-American generation” by meeting face to face, and why we’re in a “transitional moment.”

Check out www.skidrowthemovie.com to find where it’s showing near you.

Why did you make this movie?

To make people aware. The majority of Americans just want to be able to work and provide. People on Skid Row … they just want to be able to work, they don’t care what it is. A lot of people think if something’s going on over here and not where they are, then it doesn’t affect them. We have to get away from that mindset.

Jenny McCarthy, Toni Braxton, Bill Cosby and other stars want you to know that today is Autism Awareness Day. You may not know that because it’s the first one ever. Toni Braxton, whose son has autism, is a spokeswoman for Autism Speaks and is helping raise awareness about autism. The 6-time Grammy Award winner feels “privileged to have the opportunity to help advance this cause in any way I possibly can.” Jenny McCarthy, and Robert Smigel of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog fame, also each have Autistic sons and are active in organizing around the issue. And Lionel Richie, Matthew Broderick and Bill Cosby fundraise for the cause.

And on April 13th, Jon Stewart will host the “Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Benefit for Autism Education” in New York City. The show will air live on Comedy Central at 8pm and and will feature standup routines, sketches and short films from Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Steve Carell, Jonah Hill, Tina Fey, Conan O’Brien, Stephen Colbert, Sarah Silverman, Amy Poehler, Matthew Broderick, Jonah Hill, Kevin James, Rosie O’Donnell and Susie Essman. But what is autism? The Autism Speaks Website explains
