A power earthquake stuck the Indian ocean earlier today. the quake measured 6.7 on the Richter scale struck off the Andaman islands. Tremors were felt in Chennai and the quake caused people to flee their homes. No tsunami alert has been issued and there is no immediate reports of casualties.

Fires near Big Sur continue to creep towards the historic and popular tourist town.
“This is not going away any time soon,” said Mark Savage, a spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service.

The massive lightning-sparked wildfire was burning through the Los Padres National Forest and toward the town of Big Sur. Firefighters rushed to protect about 575 threatened homes and historic structures.

The blaze was only 3 percent contained, and had burned nearly 42 square miles near the coast about a mile south of Big Sur, officials said. [CNN]
