What about Mississippi Burning, Higher Learning or Malcolm X? A Bronx Tale is analogous to Jungle Fever - more about an inter-racial love story rather than racism… don’t you think?? What makes these “tops”? Mass appeal and critical acclaim or are these your particular faves?
SommerThese are my personal favorites. Thanks for your comment. I’d like to see Mississippi Burning and Malcolm X. A Bronx Tale is just a classic, plus it reminds me of my ex-girlfriend.
MartinGood list! Although I have to say I really really dislike Crash - I find it to be trite and preachy.
Some other good flicks would be
To Kill a Mockingbird
Gina TelaroliTodd Haynes’ Far From Heaven
Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Ali Fear Eats the Soul
American History X
In the Heat of the Night
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner
The Defiant Ones
12 Angry Men
To be honest, the one thing I did like about Crash was I felt it showed how truly ridiculous racism is. Thanks for the additions! Good stuff. I’m going to add to my list to check out!
