Roger Doiron, founder of Kitchen Gardeners International (whom fellow TakeParter Gina pointed us in the direction of the other day) has started a campaign to encourage the next President of the United States to grow a vegetable garden on the First Lawn. His video, titled “This Lawn Is Your Lawn,” shows how easy it is to plant a garden in front of your own home. Fun Fact: Eleanor Roosevelt’s victory garden, planted in front of the White House in 1943, inspired millions of Americans to follow suit. By the time the war ended in 1945, 40 percent of all produce in the US was grown at home.
Growing produce at home is about as local as you can get! takepart and check out how the Kitchen Gardeners are doing it. Be sure to leave comments below and tell us about your own adventures in home gardening.
