Public Alpha: have suggestions or feedback?

Last night’s annual MLB All Star Game took 15 innings to settle and those 15 innings took 4 hours and 50 minutes to play. Now, I enjoy a good game of baseball every now and then, especially when I get to see the best of the entire league, but 5 hours seems a bit long to watch men hit balls with sticks. If you’re on that same page, you might want to check out one of the 9 baseball movies below (in honor of the appropriate amount of innings). If you’re a baseball fan you’ve probably seen them all, but perhaps it’s time to try them out again, they never really go out of style. Also they’re all under 2 hours long, leaving you time to do something crazy like actually play baseball instead of watching it on TV.
takepart to learn about Major League Baseballs relationship with the Boys and Girld Club of America and be sure to let us know if we missed your favorite baseball film!
1) Eight Men Out (pictured above) - John Sayles portrait of the infamous 1919 Chicago White Sox and the controversey surrounding the possibility that they lost on purpose is a quiet gem of a film. It could easily be alarmist and focus only on the scandal, instead Sayles explores the people and the game they loved.
2) The Natural - A beautiful film that captures the true spirit of baseball and of life. Robert Redford is of course great.
_______
3) The Sandlot - A summer of fun, a summer of baseball, a summer of adventure - this is The Sandlot. One of my favorite childhood films, this one is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The plot may seem typical, but the characters and quiet moments make this film great.
______
4) Angels in the Outfield (1951) - The original Angels in the Outfield is great for baseball fans (some players are actually featured) and cinema fans alike (it’s a good film). A great look at baseball of the past.

5) Field of Dreams - If you turn on your TV right now, there is a chance that this movie is probably on. I’ve always loved Field of Dreams and to share an embarrassing secret, I always cry. It’s about more than baseball, it’s about family, fathers and friendship.
______
6) A League of Their Own - A funny and touching look at the first professional women’s baseball league, this film shows how strong ladies can be. A little cheesy at times, I still always enjoy this film and the simple ideas of how to be strong and still be a woman.
______
7) Bull Durham - A film of chemistry on and off the field, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins and Kevin Costner all give stellar performances.
______
8 ) Cobb - Tommy Lee Jones gives a great performance as the legendary Ty Cobb. A dark tale about fame and legend.

9) Major League - Major League isn’t listed last because I find the rest of the films to be better, but because it is really the only appropriate place for the film on any list. A comical look at the Cleveland Indians (everyones favorite team and city to dog) and their owners attempts to put them in last place, this film is number 1 with any Clevelander - like myself. Plus everyone loves Wild Thing!
