Public Alpha: have suggestions or feedback?
John McCain wants to unleash the power of American innovation to ween the country off oil with an old fashioned, but effective motivator; a cash prize. The presumptive Republican nominee for President proposed awarding a $300 Million prize to the inventor who could come up with a car battery far advanced from the current technology available, in a recent speech at Fresno State University.
While enormous strides have been made in recent years in battery technology, what’s currently available for mass production limits plug in electric cars to about a 250 mile range per charge, and leaves little to no room for trunk storage with the space needed for the Lithium Ion Batteries. The batteries are also costly which prompted Senator McCain to require the winner of his proposed challenge to deliver battery power at 30% of current costs having as he put it, “the size, capacity, cost and power to leapfrog the commercially available plug-in hybrids or electric cars.”
The proposed $300 Million dollar prize would amount to approximately $1 for every citizen of the United States, “a small price to pay for helping to break the back of our oil dependency” McCain said.
Meanwhile on Sunday, McCain’s Democratic opponent in the race for the White House, Illinois Senator Barack Obama told an audience in Washington DC that he would strengthen oversight and enforcement over energy speculators whose business practices he blamed in part for the the current sky high oil prices. Obama has stressed alternative energy and a decreased dependence on oil as part of overall energy policy, but thus far has not included an innovation contest in his proposals.

Pollution Solution
By Dale
This letter is a suggestion for a systematic change to help the planets environment. If the following method was used, we would drastically cut pollution all the while benefiting in other areas of our lives.
We should promote employers (just like when the internet was promoted to businesses) to create CD’s and Internet sites offering their specific and full training for every job position within their company. Companies could program simulators, company manuals, or anything else that they see as an advantages tool for training into the program. They could also include testing that would score and chronologically date the results of each person who completes training, giving the employer the ability to make a more educated, confident, unbiased decision on who will be their next hires, rather then now only being able to guess between two of the same schooling degrees or related work experience, all the while trying to decide whether they believe someone will be capable of performing the job applied for. Importantly the employers would only offer their TRAINING in this new way, LOCALLY. They should also place their training in local school’s and libraries (maybe this could become part of the schools curriculum and truly fine tune early decisions while creating ambition) and we could ask companies to hire from this new method their local students, creating local employees. This will be a fair hiring as all cities will offer the same training method from their local companies. This will nicely serve the supply and demand of society as it is needed, as opposed to schools focusing on either academic scholars or trade scholars and in turn over filling one or the other into unemployment. The current method has people filing bankruptcy and increasing the national debt as they lack the ability to pay their student loans or other loans as a result of the over swamped workforce within their professional training. Where else can they turn immediately to but over filled entry level positions in retail, factories, or unemployment and around again, all the while trying to train into another career field.
By this new method employers will benefit by gaining the most qualified pre-trained employees on demand as needed, who will know exactly what their doing and what the company expects from them upon hire. The companies will have employees who would best represent, and ambitiously drive them into the future. Even if an employee quits, another employee just as trained is at their calling. Companies will not be paying to train someone who for example decides soon after that they are not really interested in the job, and either leaves or stays on at the employers expense, because of their financial position and inability to train for a job that suites them while supporting themselves or a family as well. The employers training exposed for other companies to learn from as well as to learn from other companies, propelling society and technology expediently forward and possibly cause a requirement for a second common work shift other then just a nine to five.
With this new method, we could have happy striving talented employees who settle into what truly is the best job position for them and their natural talents at that time in their life, instead of making a pre-mature blind decision in high school which doesn’t offer much for the ability to change professions later down the road, should the students have made the wrong decision, or by just being human, become bored and want a change in their life. This should also help avoid people who have been more employed in their lives, that leave their jobs (for whatever reason) from taking entry level jobs and over flooding those positions forcing more onto unemployment in the current model. This new model will enable entry level employees to reach for more advanced jobs, setting an equal working field, rather then being locked out of the workforce into unemployment by competing against more experienced people who’s resumes appear more advanced, even if unrelated to the applied for position.
With this new method people would then have the freedom and ability to move around and settle into what is the best decision for them where they see fit. This method will remove obstacles for people whether it’s a learning disability, long hours at their current job, raising a family, poor past schooling, inability to fund a change etc. etc. With this new method people will be able to try different jobs before they actually fully train and apply. They can complete training at their own speed as there is no deadline. Schools currently expect a year by year success or failure which does not incorporate individual life differences. Students learn when they are interested in something that is meaningful and interesting to them.
This method will create real optimistic futures for young and old, deter crime by giving people the immediate obtainable ability to progress out of poverty by choice. Because these jobs will hire locally, this inadvertently will be helping the air quality and everything linked to it by stopping commutes to other cities. You know those cars we see on television every morning and evening with employees commuting as a result of a break between education and employment? This method will simply take those cars off the road. By working locally employees will have more time in their day, and less stress from waiting in traffic, which I’m sure would make everyone very happy, which could reflect in their work.
This method will drastically cut running times per vehicle per day (Ex: approx.1 hour and 40 minutes per vehicle per day, for a vehicle traveling from Oshawa, ON to Toronto, ON or even more as time passes.). We will consume far less fuel and emit far less pollution into the air. This method should also help drop the insurance rates as a result of less traffic causing less collisions and again less fuel per vehicle pumped into the atmosphere because one person who has an accident causes hours of traffic build up and pollution from every other vehicle. We will consume less oil in oil changes, less tire wear and tire disposal, etc. etc. This will now open highways for the increasing commercial demand, our bloodline, and speed up travel times, while increasing truck driver safety by allowing drivers to make more use of their log book times. This will speed up our economy and reflect in the need to employ. This should also balance nicely with the increasing population and employment demand. With increasing population comes increased volume of vehicles on the road, so you can see that emission standards do very little, and take a very long time to settle a 2008 standard into the entire fleet on the road. This will cut down the need to expand the width of our roads that only caters to more traffic, smog and costs today.
The government will benefit from less people on assistance, less schooling paid out, increased tax income, and the quality of life changes reflected back to that government and the people. They will benefit from a decreasing national debt and profit to reinvest into the province and hopefully the country. Cities will be expanding and growing everywhere, instead of just expanding the perimeter of a large city (because of commuters) increasing traffic and pollution problems along with everything else discussed and more. According to the WWF, as a result of the greenhouse effect caused by pollution, we are melting the polar ice caps and as a result, the polar bears are drowning, not to mention a whole lot of other problem demanding our attention. The damage can only become expediently worse if we don’t make changes today. There needs to be more responsibility on the employers for our planets environment. The current method of hiring is harmful to our planet and is having a devastating effect on the bigger picture for everyone.
We truly need the governments to unite and then unite with the employers, and the employers to unite with the Board of Education for local training and to a new division of the Ministry of Transportation to monitor and regulate traffic flow by by suggestion while all are in contact with the Ministry of Environment who will focus the system on whats best for the planet. This union of parties needs to actively communicate as one, as they all play vital roles in our society. If we just tweak this gap between education and employment, our weak link in our chain will disappear and we will rid ourselves from the roots of a lot of other problems that extend from our current system. We need to do our own part in working locally if at all possible. We should use public transportation until this method has evolved.
People who can control their futures become happy and hopeful, so lets give them the power to change their lives themselves and benefit all of the planet doing so. What is our alternative? This solution only asks for your cooperation. You can change the future for your family and your families family today! They are depending on us. Lets lead by example! If it doesn’t start with us, then who is qualified? This may be a problem of who is willing to change in light of a well known problem. Will you?
Hopeful, … Dale

Dale JonesMr. McCain must have seen Who Killed the Electric Car?
Answer: Big oil men and their drinking buddies!
EV
Inspired by the Documentary ‘Who Killed the Electric Car’
Posted here for John McCain!
A car is man’s right, his toy, and his steed.
It runs on black gold, which kills us! Indeed!
Moral men tried electric and expected a win;
But were crushed by the oil men, who decided to sin.
Why blind a great vision, using power and pelf?
Why malign our best science? Why lie to yourself?
EV was for those who loved life without smog,
So nature can heal and bring back our real fog.
All men with the power, please try to be fair,
So all on the planet can breath good fresh air!
Look at the facts we have uncovered so far.
Why kill EV? Resurrect it and make a great car!
