Yup, I’m a sucker for Oprah recommended reading.

I just finished reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. I usually take forever to finish a book, but this book captured my interest so strongly that I breezed through this book in just one week (I get very proud when I actually read a whole book).

The line “awaken to your life’s purpose” on the book’s cover led me to think this book was a guide to help me better figure out my career goals. And this book did help me with career goals, but not in a direct way. Instead the book explores our ego and how collectively our ego’s shape the world. He focuses on the notion of “being” rather than “doing” and how this presence allows to discover our true life purpose. I can’t really explain this book in one blog post. Actually I can’t really explain this book at all, all I can say is it’s calmed me down while also making my head spin (in good way). I read the final page with a smile on my face excited to incorporate Tolle’s advice into my life. That was 10 days ago and so far, so good.

Here’s how the book’s site explains things: Humanity now, perhaps more than in any previous time, has an opportunity to create a new, saner, more loving world. This will involve a radical inner leap from the current egoic consciousness to an entirely new one. In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are—which is something infinitely greater than anything we currently think we are—and learn to live and breathe freely. [EckhartTolle.com]

That’s some deep stuff eh? Now imagine over 300 pages of this self exploration. It’s like years of yoga, church, and philosophy class shoved into a paperback. I loved it and maybe you will too, takepart and check out http://eckharttolle.com/a_new_earth for more info.

  2. Eckhart is the man. He is helping a shift in human nature. He is trying to help us change into something closer to what human nature is better off being, and something that is achievable. But what Eckhart is trying to do, is no easy task, and there will be alot of sceptical psychos, and confused egotistical maniacs, but those are the people you could say, will always balance the Earth, between “good and evil”. There will never be a fully egoless, formless world, because if that were so, we would be something like God, and we are not. So basically Eckhart is a good man, good views, good perpectives, though his teachings are something that can be easily misleading and confusing, depending on whether you are fully identified with your ego, and I am lucky that I was able to read this at age 13, because I have a bad ego, and it would’ve just become worse and worse, if I had not realised what it was, and my ego is identifying itself with the fact that I am supposedly a lucky person, which goes to show how deceptive the ego is. You cannot defeat it, you cannot get rid of it, you have to embrace it, and accept it, and let it live, but not let it control your life, you have to find the balance between inner and external realities. Inner is where happiness is, outer will only bring shortlived satisfaction, and materialistic ways, though that is all us humans will have, and should continue to be with. Let us begin to truly live, and to truly be happy, for it has been concealed by the ego, and has always been hidden by the ego. But, you could say “good always wins”.
