Remember when Chuck Norris was a fun ironic name to bandy about harmlessly? Turns out that becomes less fun when he talks politics. Yesterday, on WorldNet Daily, which appears to be a website dedicated to conservative ideals, Norris posted an editorial called “Congress, get off your gas, and drill!” I’m almost positive there’s a pun in there, but for the life of me, I can’t find it.
Norris, it would appear, is no fan of high gas prices. He is also no fan of foreigners controlling our economy. And he’s no fan of cap-and-trade systems to control carbon emissions, because that will raise gas prices another buck fifty. You know what? Let’s let the Texas Ranger himself sum up what’s wrong.
From the steady decline in the value of our dollar, to trade deficits and oil dependency, our sovereignty is being sold out from underneath us. Might I remind the federal government what one of their original and primary charges is: to protect the American public from the tyranny of foreign powers - which is exactly what is happening through others’ financial rule over us. It is sucking the life out of our economy. And Congress is virtually standing by and watching it happen.
So. These are problems. We’re sacrificing America for the sake of the planet. We’re sacrificing America by giving our money to foreign dictators. Bad stuff, all of these.
But. There are solutions. Namely, oil production here in the United States. Again, I cannot do better justice to the idea than Norris himself.
Our message: It’s time to drill here and drill now! The petition is simple. It states: “We therefore the undersigned citizens of the United States petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gas prices by authorizing exploration of proven energy reserves and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries.”
I highly suggest you read the whole editorial. It’s a very impassioned plea to expend our oil reserves in country so AMERICA can thrive. Norris makes no bones about the fact that he values this country’s economy over the health of the planet. However, might I suggest you takepart to find some ways to decrease dependence of foreign oil without sacrificing the environment.

[...] Chuck Norris Wants America to Start Drilling for Oil Here and Now! [...]
TakePart Top 10 Weekly Roundup! | TakePart Blog Network June 13, 2008 | 9:41 am ESTDear Whom it may concern,
Hi, Im an hospice patient who has been only 6 months to live. I would like to get my idea to Chuck Norris because it go real well with his idea on the oil and gas situation. If anyone can contact me, please do so at my email address above. Thankyou so much. God bless.
sam lewisAmerica’s infrastructure is based on oil. All the trucks, planes, trains, ships, that deliver all goods to market run on oil. All automobiles, as well as all the gas stations across America run on oil. All petroleum based products, run on oil. Although alternative fuels most definitely should be developed, in the mean time America must have oil to keep our economy from screeching to a halt. In addition, our national security requires energy independence ASAP, so that we are not transferring all our wealth to foreign countries who do not like us, and who can cripple us by turning off the spigot, disrupting oil transport to us, or arbitrary oil price hikes. These are all reasons why we must be drilling for more oil right now and right here in the U.S.A. … ASAP. Nancy Pelosi and her cronies stubborn commitment to petty party politics, instead of realistic concern over our national interest, even in the face of 76% of Americans who want off shore drilling now, will end up in bringing America to its knees.
