The Wii Fit is all the rage. I have friends that have NEVER worked out but are now Wii Fit devotees! So why is the Wii so successful where other workout plans fail? Give a look to our Top 10 Ways to Stay Fit with the New Wii Fit and find out:
1) Pretending it’s all a game
I know when it comes to working out, the reason I don’t do it as often as I’d like is that it always seems like work - like something I should do. The Wii takes away that mentality - it makes working out seem like something you shouldn’t be doing, perhaps even something naughty. And everyone knows naughty is always more fun…
2) Guilt trip 101
When I don’t go running for a few days I feel guilty, but luckily the guilt is just inside my head and I can rationalize it away. When you miss your Wii workout for a few days, they don’t let you forget - they blatantly tell you that you’ve been slacking! Maybe it’s the elementary school kid in me, but I don’t like being scolded and would actually rather just workout for 30 minutes…
3) You can do it @ home
So you want to work out, but you don’t want to go out. Ever since I turned to blogging and traded in the 9-5 lifestyle, I find it harder and harder to actually leave my home. While this is healthy or not, it makes the Wii Fit perfect for me because I don’t have to leave home! This totally increases the chances of me actually working out.
4) Avatars that actually look like you weigh
There’s nothing more motivating than having to watch an animated you that might be slightly overweight. The shear prospect of my avatar losing weight is enough to me work a “wii” bit harder - esp when you see your friend’s avatars. What can I say, my cyberself is a bit vain…
5) Choices and variety
Everything is better when you get a choice and when you can have a little of everything. The Wii Fit has a variety of exercises you can do dependent on how you feel and your mood. For someone like me that wishes she could order small portions of 4 or 5 items on restaurant menus this is the perfect way to get me into some workout clothes and away from those darn restaurants.
6) Unlocking levels
One of only reasons I liked video games as a kid was that I wanted to unlock levels and move ahead just so I could see what the secrets were. The Wii Fit plays to the adventurer in me as it too has levels and will only unlock certain workouts when you are ready. They say curiosity killed the cat, but in this case it might just help you lose a few pounds.
7) The competitor in all of us
While the best measure of progress is always how you feel, the Wii Fit goes a bit further and ranks your workouts so you know how you are actually doing. For those of us with healthy competitive spirits this might help us go that extra mile on the journey to getting in shape.
8 ) Wii Fit is super cool and popular ![]()
Let’s be honest, it is always easier and more fun to do something when it’s popular and the Wii Fit is definitely that. I mean you don’t want to be the only person without a Wii Fit war story are you?
9) You can watch others get Wii Fit online
Sometimes I feel silly working out - and often there’s nothing I can do about it. But in our internet age you can just go to YouTube and see tons of people Wii working out and moving in ridiculous ways. It always helpful to see others doing the things you feel too silly to do.
10) You want to try and like how it feels
Let’s be honest, the hardest part of starting a workout plan is actually starting. Where the Wii succeeds is that it tricks you into starting by being so darn hip. Once you start, chances are you’ll see physical improvements that you like… and perhaps that will be enough to keep you going. Now if only there was a Wii for not eating cookies…
