One Laptop Per Child, the organization that aims to put a laptop in the hands of every child in the developing world, just announced a new model laptop with two touchscreens — one on top, and one on bottom, in place of a clickable keyboard.
In using a touchscreen keyboard, it’s like the iPhone. But the two-touchscreen design actually is most similar to Nintendo’s new handheld, the DS.
OLPC says the new model, dubbed the XOXO and slated for release in 2010, will eventually sell for under $100. It will draw a quarter as much power as OLPC’s current model, the XO, which will decrease the amount of time kids need to spend cranking the hand-charger. It will also be half the size of the XO — making the new model about as big as a book, which will enable small children to easily carry it to school. Gizmag has more
