Fareed Zakaria is bringing a new hour long program on foreign affairs and policy to CNN with GPS, an acronym for Global Public Square. The show, airing Sundays at 1PM, will feature Newsweek International Editor and Foreign Affairs expert Zakaria interviewing prominent figures from around the globe on current events and issues that affect the United States.

The purpose of the program is to fill the gap in US press coverage of international news and how it affects us here at home, which is obviously no small task given the enormous crater in American public knowledge about life outside the 50 states created by our infotainment news culture. But if anyone is up to the job, it’s Fareed Zakaria with his deep understanding of world affairs and vast experience covering international news around the globe.

  1. Unfortunately, the show doesn’t seem to be well-balanced in presenting the different views of issues and sticking to the facts. Case in point: a recent roundtable on immigration in the United States focused only on the view that anyone against illegal immigration was racist and anti-immigrant, forgetting that we are a nation of immigrants. This is not a issue unique to the United States. Countries such as France are also dealing with illegal immigration and the effects that undermine a rational, reasonable, metered flow of immigrants into a country that it can support based upon it’s culture, social and civic services, rate of assimilation, and basic economic structure.
If the guests of the roundtable can’t speak on the facts without prejudicial bias, then it’s not much of an intelligent forum.

    I learn something new everyday.

  3. It is a fountain of unbiased information! I am bored of watching individuals with compromised opinions hanging on childish issues - who cares for Obama or McCain religious opinions or backrounds - at a time when so many important developments are hapening.
Fareed Zakaria clearly asks questions and raises issues that are important.
Reading his books is also a great experience. I have found so many logic answers to the arab situation, to the american democracy problems, and to many other serious subjects in his books.

  5. GPS is overall the best program in American media in balancing the news and info about the world ivents in general. I just watched the program today which talked about the world finacial doldrums that we are going through. Its really very well balanced and knowledgeble program. So far so good. I would like GPS to cover an unbiased reporting on middle east issues like why Israel should be allowed to have nuclear weapons and others can’t in that region. I need to have an honest answer. Explainations like Israel is responsible and others are not won’t cut it. There are oil producing muslim contries in that region who are contibuting already and willing to contribute more towards the global economic revival. Does GPS has the guts to be balanced in that respect?

  6. I enjoy GPS it has an array of very important topics and the resources that you bring to the show are very informative. I like the bold opinions you state and I believe some news reporters are sometimes hasten to say, example: that Sarah Palin in not qualified. I like her at a smaller scale like governor, but am very fearful about her and her decision making. The show today was also very informative regarding global market. I learn so much in watching your show and able to see other foreign officials is an eye opening
