Solar and whatnotIf simply owning a Prius isn’t enough satisfaction these days because now everyone else has one (I hear it’s actually a law in Los Angeles you have to own at least one), now you can Prius to the max by replacing your hybrid’s roof with solar panels to get that extra boost of non-gasoline power.

The roof panels are made by a company called SEV, and are compatible with the 2004 through 2006 models of the Toyota car. The panels integrate seamlessly into the automobile, and

- The SEV system provides up to 20 miles per day of electric mode driving range and increased fuel economy.
- The SEV system provides up to 29% improved fuel economy depending on driving habits, road speed and conditions.
- The SEV system doesn’t require plugging in for charging. The SEV system uses clean renewable energy that is environmentally friendly.

Good stuff, good stuff. The company also boasts that you can recoup your investment on this roof gizmo in two to three years based on the gas savings. And, once John McCain is elected president and bombs the Middle East and gas prices go to $94 a gallon, that savings will come a lot faster. I’m sorry. That was a tangent.

One Response to “Trick Out Your Prius With Solar Panels on the Roof”

  1. Why just the roof? Why not expand the roof and place more panels on it and also on the car hood. In addition people with private homes can also have solar panels on the property and plug the car in when at home and not in use.
