Public Alpha: have suggestions or feedback?
Just yesterday, I posted about Greensburg, Kansas being rebuilt into a model green community. I believe the words “the model green community” might have even been used. Well, Abu Dhabi caught me moving after it yelled red light and has sent me back to start. The nation that sits on 10% of the world’s oil reserve is building what has to be considered the model green city. Sorry, Greensburg, you got served.
The city will be known as Masdar City, and costs are anticipated to begin around $22 billion. However will they find the money? Per NPR,
Over the next decade, a city of 50,000 residents will be built from scratch. And unlike any other city in the world, Masdar City will have no carbon footprint. Once it’s built, the city will be powered entirely by renewable energy.
The city will be six square kilometers, which is something like 3.6 square miles, or 28 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on how you convert it. The nation is also soliciting ideas from western countries and institutions, including MIT, which has smart people doing things with quantum physics that make absolutely no sense to people like you and me (sorry to speak for you, you, but it’s true).
Plans include banning cars, recycling 80% of the water, almost eliminating air conditioning, and more and more and more. You can
here by reading and listening to part one of the story, and
here with part two.
