To celebrate Earth Day, NBC Universal has decided that only one day to celebrate the planet is for chumps, and has proclaimed it to be Earth Week over at their media outlets.  Many of NBC’s shows will be eco-themed this week, and those totally helpful “The More You Know” bumps will focus on the environment.  As well, at NBC’s special green website you can, “Learn simple and easy ways to incorporate “˜Green’ choices into your lifestyle.”  While many of these tips may seem old hat to some of us, there really is a lot of good information on the site, and it’s nice to see a company with so much power promoting a green agenda.  A few other things that NBC is doing, aside from telling you what you ought to do:

At jaylenosgarage.com, you can check out video of, well, Jay Leno and his garage.  Leno has modified said garage to incorporate solar power, though the solar panels probably don’t work to run his 112,000 cars and motorcycles.  Of course, we’ve known for years Leno’s commitment to environmentalism, as he’s been a champion of leaving the car at home during his eco-friendly “Jaywalking” sketches.

As reported at AutoblogGreen, NBC has unveiled a new environmentally-friendly satellite truck that will be used at MSNBC for reporting and whatever else MSNBC does.  The truck is certifiably green, as it

[I]ncorporates three deep cycle batteries that can operate the satellite and cell phone video technology for 5 to 6 hours. When a recharge is needed, solar panel mats are rolled out and wind turbines hoisted to avoid running the engine as a generator like a typical satellite truck might. At $100,000, this vehicle is also much less expensive than the $500,000 spent for those usually used to transmit live feeds and it runs at 20 amps instead of 60.

And tomorrow, Radiohead will perform on Late Night With Conan O’Brien.  Kind of.  Radiohead will not be in New York to play the song live.  Back in England, the band taped an exclusive performance of “House of Cards,” the creepiest song on their new album, and is sending the recording to be played on the show.  As reported at Pitchfork Media, because it’s Earth Week, “the band has decided to spare Mother Earth the carbon footprint of a couple needless transatlantic flights and do their “˜House of Cards’ thing from the comfort of their home country.”
