Public Alpha: have suggestions or feedback?
Al Gore may be staying out of fray by keeping mum about his choice for the democratic presidential candidate, but he’s still on the front lines of the campaign to stop global warming. In a 60 Minutes interview last night with Lesley Stahl, Gore discussed his new $300 million dollar bipartisan advertising campaign to increase awareness about global warming. The commercials feature political odd couples including Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich, and Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson, who share at least one thing in common ““ their concern for the environment.
Al and Tipper Gore have used all of the profits from the movie and the book “An Inconvenient Truth,” as well as the cash component of Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize toward the making of the commercials. Broadcast networks and cable channels across the country will begin airing the ads on Wednesday, April 2nd.
When asked what he thought about global warming naysayers who still question whether or not climate change is man-made, Gore had this to say:
“There’s still a lot of skepticism about whether global warming is man made,” Stahl remarked.
“I don’t think there’s a lot. I think there’s”¦” Gore said.
“Well, there’s pretty impressive people like the vice president,” Stahl pointed out. “He said, ‘We don’t know what causes it.’”
“You’re talking about Dick Cheney,” Gore replied.
“Yeah, but others. And they say: we don’t know what causes it and why spend all this money till we really know,” Stahl said.
“I think that those people are in such a tiny, tiny minority now with their point of view. They’re almost like the ones who still believe that the moon landing was staged in a movie lot in Arizona and those who believe the earth is flat. That demeans them a little bit, but it’s not that far off,” Gore said.
Gore has previously been criticized for using 20 times the amount of energy than an average American household in his 18 room Nashville mansion. He has since retrofitted his entire home to be more eco-friendly, including adding 33 solar panels to the roof. He is also in the process of making his family’s farm more eco-friendly by installing windmills for electricity, and plans to turn it into a training center for those with like eco-aspirations.

I hope Mr. Gore had many family and friends around to get cozy for his birthday!
Happy 60, Al!!
Here is a poem I wrote in Texas the summer before last for you.
I Forgive
Written for Mr. Al Gore
I forgive you, my God,
For all who must fall,
For death and destruction.
Are you creator of all?
Life with its ending,
So brutal sometimes,
Has a magic that hides.
I cry for mans’ crimes.
You made us mortal,
We scream and lament
And fear everyday
The death that is sent.
Does the devil call killers;
Call young child abusers?
Who calls the victims
Of man made drug users?
We don’t want the wars,
Nor dictators who,
Rule with their might,
And refuse to be true.
Why give us power,
And brains we don’t use
To stop all our leaders
From lighting the fuse?
Man says we must fight,
And kill and pollute.
And take down the children.
Do I dare to refute?
I forgive you, my God.
I look and I see,
It is not your fault.
We do it for ‘ME’.
