This month’s The Advocate Magazine features the story of Thomas Beatie, a transgender person who was a woman but is now legally male. With his surgery, Beatie was able to keep the reproductive organs he was born with and stopped getting the injections so he was able to get pregnant. Apparently Beatie was artificially inseminated and is now expecting a daughter.

However many are skeptical of Beatie’s claim as shown in this clip from Good Morning America.

Whether or not Beatie is indeed pregnant, this story draws attention to the transgender population in America, a population that is often misunderstood and discriminated against. For more on transgender rights and information, and visit The National Center for Transgender Equality.

  1. [...] A Pregnant Man? [...]

  2. OK SO EXCUSE MY IGNORANCE..WHAT SURGERY DID SHE HAVE. SHE STILL HAS HER OVARIES AND SHE HAD THE BABY TODAY NATURALLY, WHICH MEANS SHE STILL HAS HER VAGINA. SO WHERE EXACTLY DOES THT MAN PART COME IN?????????

  3. I would like to take this moment to say first of all to call him a pregnant man is stupid. This is a transgender man/woman or whatever it works out to when a woman tries to become a man. To put a transgender on the same playing field as a real man is very idiotic, no matter how you break it down, males and females think very differently and adding or chopping body parts up is not going to make that person anymore of a man or woman.

  4. It angers me that a person who was born a Woman is getting the title “First pregnant Man”. That title belongs to the first real man who is born with a penis that gets pregnant. Not a women who changes her body parts!

  5. The fact the GMA devotes so much attention to this story is a freigtening commentery on our culture. This is a pregnant transsexual with her native female organs. To continue to refer to this as a Pregnanat Man is ignorant. I am certain Noah is quite pleased to know he did not have to plan for this problem when he was loading the Ark.
