Here on Takepart, I blog a lot about films and so do the rest of the ladies on the Takepart blog team. We’re just little fish in the big pond of film blogging though, thus I present to you the Top 10 Film Blogs. The order is somewhat random, I mostly tried to mix things up and show you a variety of the different types of film blogs that are out there.

Did I miss one? Let me know and leave the left out blog in the comments!

1. GreenCine Daily : http://daily.greencine.com/

A great blog about indie cinema, classic cinema, foreign cinema etc… They are always covering the latest festival and films that aren’t always in the mainstream. More than that, they have reviews, interviews, previews and lots of good old regular views on films, directors and all the other folks who help to bring us great cinema. Give a read and also be sure to check out their sister site, http://greencine.com - an awesome online rental service.

______

2. The Chicago Reader’s On Film : http://blogs.chicagoreader.com/film/

In my opinion, Jonathan Rosenbaum is one of the best critics out there today. He may have just retired from the Chicago Reader, but hopefully he’ll keep writing for their blog (along with J.R. Jones, Pat Graham and Andrea Gronvall) Between all of them, they help to make the On Film blog an interesting source of movie news, featuring the critics thoughts and observations. Also, according to the Reader site, they’re helping Rosenbaum develop his own site http://www.jonathanrosenbaum.com - I’m sure it will make my list next year.

______

3. Like Anna Karina’s Sweater : http://filmbrain.com

Run by the blogger persona Filmbrain, Like Anna Karina’s Sweater is a more personal blog with thoughts on all types of movies and a super fun weekly movie screenshot quiz. More than that, Filmbrain just started his own distribution company ( http://bentenfilms.com ), meaning once in awhile you’ll get to hear tidbits about that world as well. I guarantee you’ll have fun trying to figure out the screenshots and that you’ll definitely learn something at this awesome blog.

______

4. The Criterion Collection’s On Five : http://www.criterion.com/blog/index.html

If you don’t know what The Criterion Collection is, you should! The Criterion Collection is a great company that puts out a continuing series of DVDs of important classic and contemporary films. They do more than just put out the DVDs though, they also transfer the films in the best possible manner and include some of the best DVD extras you’ll ever see. On top of that they keep a great blog that talks about their process in preparing one of their special releases, which not only give insight into what goes into a DVD release but also gives you great information about the films themselves.

______

5. IFC, Indie Eye : http://www.ifc.com/film/indie-eye/

IFC has not only been releasing some pretty amazing films these days (including a few films I’ve blogged about) but the’ve also been keeping a great blog about the indie film scene complete with informative “critic wrangles” or summary of critic’s thoughts about new releases. A very comprehensive blog!

______

6. Doc it Out : http://agnesvarnum.com/

Into documentaries? You should definitely be visiting Agnes Varnum’s blog about them! She visits lots of fests and always has an interesting perspective on what’s happening in all aspects of documentary. So be sure to check out, doc it out.

______

7. Observations on film art and Film Art : http://www.davidbordwell.net/blog/index.php

David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson helm this site and give us more and more great stuff with each entry. If you want to learn about cinema, this blog is a must visit.

______

8. Spout Blog : http://blog.spout.com/

I think their header says it all : “Daily coverage of what is truly interesting in the film world.” Who wouldn’t want to read that? Also, if you’re a movie fan you should definitely know about http://spout.com.

______

9. IndieWire Blogs : http://www.indiewire.com/community/blogs/blogs_we_house.html

A plethora of links to fun and fascinating film blogs - all done by IndieWire.

______

10. Cinematical : http://www.cinematical.com/

Jam packed and a little more Hollywood, Cinematical is a great film blog primer for anyone wanting to some light film reading.

______

A few other sites I really dig are http://d-kaz.com, http://filmref.com, http://thereeler.com, http://www.lucidscreening.com and http://davekehr.com . It should also be noted that the best way to learn about awesome film blogs is by going to the above site’s blogrolls or links section. Nobody knows good film blogs like film bloggers themselves.

So there you have it! If you like movie and are are inspired - I recommend you and create your own cinema voice on the web!
