Tis’ the season of giving, and for those with lots of extra cash to spare, giving often extends beyond friends and family to charities and non-profits. But with big dollars come big concerns about whether the money one is donating is actually making a difference . Forces for Good by Leslie Crutchfield and Heather McLeod Grant. In the book, Crutchfield and McLeod highlight some non-profits that stand a bit taller than the others and talk about 6 things that any non profit could do do improve their efforts.One example is suggesting organizations collaborate and create networks, something a lot of NGOs talk about but never really do. Another is sharing leadership, thus avoiding any problems when the overly entwined initial leader steps away from the organization. The book is available at amazon.com and probably at your local independent bookstore ( instead of a big one that starts with B).I for one am glad that there are folks out there giving their advice to the good hearted people running non-profits, maybe someone needs to write the reverse book, one about trying to do good instead of just worrying about success for the corporations…
